2014 Year End Party - Murder Mystery Lunch
For the 2014 year end party, we decided to keep proceedings more relaxed than prior years. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Brass Bell Restaurant in Kalk Bay. We were surrounded by breath-taking views of the ocean and were lucky with perfect summer weather. A few of the staff members enjoyed the chilly waters, while the rest of us watched!
In addition to the delicious food and beautiful scenery, we spent the afternoon deciphering a Murder Mystery set in Hawaii. 8 of our employee's volunteered to be suspects and each table was required to figure out who the killed Winnie. The plot turned out to be a lot more complicated than most of us expected and many selected the wrong suspect. One group were smart enough to ask the correct questions and established that the Murderer was Leia Lailani.
Another highlight of the day, was that Margaret Bains celebrated 10 years' service with LPH.
Casual Day 2014
LPH participated in the annual Casual Day initiative which took place on Friday, 5th of September 2014. Casual Day is a charity inspired campaign that encourages all fun-loving South Africans to dress differently for a day to raise funds and raise awareness of persons with disabilities.
The theme for 20134 was "Bring on the Bling".
The winner of the "best dressed" prize was Robyn Van Wyk.
Bowling has become an annual event at LPH. It is always a fun way to end a busy first half of the year. It is also perfectly suited to the competitive nature of most staff members at LPH.
Teams were drawn randomly again this year. The winning team was "Team 2". One of our directors, Dylan Cox, won the title of best male player, whilst one of our article clerks, Justine Fortuin won the title of best female player.
The Gutter King award went to Nathan Patrick, whilst Gutter Queen was awarded to Firdaus Walele. Both are article clerks within our Auditing department.
LPH Year End Party 2013 - Potjiekos Competition
To celebrate a successful year, the LPH team spent a beautiful summer's day at Welbeloond Wine Farm in Durbanville. In true LPH style, some competition had to be thrown into the mix, this time the potjie mix.
All the employees were split into 6 teams and each team was responsible for the preparation of one potjie on the day. These 6 potjies was the lunch for everyone on the day.
The potjies were then judged by 4 independent judges and the scoring was based on certain characteristics, such as taste, aroma, presentation and texture.
It was a close call and the results were as follows:
- Winning Team: Red Hot Chilli Peppers (score: 74/100)
- Joint 2nd place: Potjie Potheads & Pot Luck (score: 65/100)
- 3rd place: The Cookamoers (score: 64/100)
- Joint 4th place: Eastern Potential & Potjie Paramedics (score: 63/100)
All in all it was a successful day. It was clear that many staff members are quite talented in the cooking department and that the competitive spirit can be taken to any task.
LPH Bowling 2013
2013 has been a busy year and as a way to unwind and have some fun, the LPH Team enjoyed an afternoon of ten pin bowling.
The winning team, Team 4, was led by one of our directors, Wihan De Villiers.
Wihan was also the winner of the "Best Male player" prize for the day. Kim Masuret was the winner of "Top Female Player". The Gutter King award went to Nathan Patrick and the Gutter Queen award went to Chenda Frantz.
Even though there were a few complaints about sore bodies the next day, fun was had by all!
